Founded in 1886, the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. (Convention) is the nation’s oldest and largest African American religious convention with an estimated membership of 7.5 million.
In a day of rapidly changing social and moral values in which even the Church often finds itself feeling the need to revise its theological and biblical understanding to accommodate the current cultural religious trends, we are convinced that it is necessary that we, as a convention, reiterate at least the basic doctrines from which there can be no deviation if we are to remain faithful to biblical truth.
The Wood River Baptist District Association, Inc. is the oldest continous African American Baptist District in the country today. As of 2019, the Association has existed for 180 years. Our Moderator is Rev. Silas Johnson.
The Objectives of this Organization shall be to maintain a fellowship with the Baptist Pastors of Springfield and Vicinity; and to assist fellow Pastors in the efforts to practice and preach the Message of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ.
The major purpose of the alliance is to promote the spread of the Gospel Message and principles of Jesus Christ throughout Springfield and Vicinity. The organization is exclusively for charitable, religious, educational, and/or social service purposes.
We will tell authentic stories about African-American life in Central Illinois, past and present, celebrating and sharing our history and culture and planning for our future. We will do this through scholarship, oral histories, exhibits, partnerships, our board, our supporters and our friends. We are and will be community builders.
Route History Museum is the only brick and mortar museum in the United States that highlights the significance of the Black experience along Historic Route 66 using technology.
